The East Nancemeer Farm Shed Replacement Project

Background

East Nancemeer Farm in Newquay, Cornwall required the replacement of two aging agricultural sheds that were essential for the dairy farm's operations and future growth. The existing sheds, despite their size, lacked functionality and modern safety features.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to demolish the old sheds and construct new ones while minimising disruption to the farm's daily operations. This included maintaining temporary power and water supplies to existing key buildings and ensuring the timely completion of the project for winter use.

Solution

The project commenced with the careful dismantling of existing sheds, prioritising waste management to minimise the environmental impact. In place of the sheds rose a new steel-framed structure with larger bay entrances, eased machinery access and an improved lighting system with designated lux levels for different work areas. To improve employee usage of the barns accessible electrical controls were installed for the lights and equipment to enhance convenience. As part of the works the Facilities team also revamped the electrical installation with improved earthing safety to make the site more compliant and secure. Groundwork and concrete repairs were able to address pre-existing structural issues and improve the surrounding yard area. Furthermore, the construction has taken sustainability into account with the barn designed to reuse rainwater and LED floodlights from the old sheds were repurposed reducing waste. Throughout the project, consistent communication with the client and farmer, coupled with documentation evidence at each stage, ensured a smooth construction process.

Result

The East Nancemeer Farm shed replacement project demonstrates the successful implementation of a complex agricultural construction project while minimising disruption and enhancing daily farm operations. The new sheds not only improve the farm's functionality and safety but also set a standard for sustainable and efficient agricultural infrastructure.

Mr Stephen Morgan, Landlord of East Nancemeer Farm, acknowledging our consistent high level of commercial communication and document management summarised, that the project had “extremely good governance in managing tenants and is something I trust is being adopted across the board.  Thank you, we will get back to you if we need anything further.”
